our impact

Since 2017, The Ruffugees Foundation has worked to give homeless animals a second chance at life. What began as a small volunteer effort in Virginia has grown into a mission powered by the generosity of supporters who believe every animal deserves safety, care, and a place to call home.

With the help of our donors, we have provided critical support to dozens of municipal and county shelters through financial assistance and food donations. As the need grew, so did our impact—between 2019 and 2020 alone, we tripled the amount of food we donated, helping ensure that animals in overcrowded shelters did not go hungry.

But our work doesn’t stop at supplies. From 2017 through 2026, we helped transport more than 60 animals from overcrowded shelters in Virginia to no-kill rescues in North Carolina, giving them a real chance at adoption and a better future. During that same time, we opened our homes and hearts by fostering 30 cats and dogs, providing them with a safe, loving place to heal and prepare for their forever families.

In 2026, we expanded our mission even further by launching Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) efforts. Through humane trapping, spaying and neutering, and returning healthy cats to their colonies, we are helping reduce community cat overpopulation while improving the health and safety of the animals already living on our streets.

Each year, we challenge ourselves to reach even further by assisting two more shelters than the year before. With every animal transported, every bowl of food filled, and every life saved, we move closer to a future where fewer animals face homelessness and suffering.

None of this would be possible without the compassion and generosity of our supporters. Together, we are changing lives—one animal at a time.
